Stitching Together Community: Supporting Fabric-a-brac Palmerston North
At the Lions Club of Middle Districts, we believe that small grants can lead to significant community outcomes. Today, we are delighted to share the details of a partnership from our 2025 archives that we are making public for the first time.
In September 2025, the Lions Club of Middle Districts Charitable Trust donated $792 to Fabric-a-brac Palmerston North. This grant was dedicated to helping cover the operational costs of their fantastic community market.
What is Fabric-a-brac?
If you haven't attended one of their events yet, you are missing out on a local treasure. Fabric-a-brac is a not-for-profit fabric and sewing market that serves a dual purpose:
-
Community & Charity: It brings together sewing enthusiasts and makers, with all event profits donated directly to the local hospice.
-
Sustainability: It acts as a vital "rescue mission" for textiles, ensuring beautiful fabrics are repurposed and kept out of landfills.
Why This Matters
Supporting the "behind-the-scenes" costs of events like Fabric-a-brac allows their team to focus on what they do best: raising funds for hospice care and promoting a circular economy. We are proud to have played a small part in keeping this event thriving.
"By supporting the running costs of the market, we ensure that more of the money raised on the day goes exactly where it's needed most—our local hospice."
Look Ahead to 2026
The creativity and commitment of the Fabric-a-brac team continue into this year! We encourage everyone to check out their upcoming 2026 event and see how you can get involved, whether as a buyer, a seller, or a volunteer.
