Supporting the Palmerston North Volunteer Fire Brigade
In the face of an ever-changing climate, preparedness is no longer just a "nice-to-have"—it is a necessity. Recently, the Lions Club of Middle Districts Charitable Trust approved a grant of $6,714.50 to the Palmerston North Volunteer Fire Brigade to fund the purchase of 30 specialized backpacks and custom velcro badges featuring the brigade’s crest.
Why "Go-Bags" are Vital
As large-scale fire events become more frequent due to climate change, our volunteer firefighters need to be able to mobilize at a moment’s notice. These new "Go-Bags" allow each member of the crew to have their essential gear packed and stored on-station, ready to be grabbed the second a call comes in.
These bags ensure:
-
Rapid Response: Gear is organized and ready for deployments of any duration.
-
Clear Identification: Custom velcro badges ensure equipment is easily identifiable in high-pressure environments.
-
Preparedness: Every member is equipped to handle the increasing demands of modern firefighting.
Supporting Our Volunteers
It is a common misconception that all emergency services are fully government-funded. In reality, our Volunteer Fire Brigades rely heavily on community support. These dedicated individuals receive only a small annual honorarium of $380, giving their time and risking their safety to keep Palmerston North safe.
"By providing this funding, we are ensuring that when the siren sounds, our volunteers aren't worrying about their gear—they’re focused on the task at hand."
We are incredibly grateful for the service of the Palmerston North Volunteer Fire Brigade and are honored to help them stay equipped for the challenges ahead.
